Dear ENG 1121-5422 students,
Below you’ll find a chart of your grades for the research essay, final exams, and the course. I hope that none of these grades come as a surprise to you; if you believe that I have made an error, please make an appointment to come speak with me so we can iron out any problems.
Working with you this semester has been wonderful, and I hope that you continue to take the kind of detailed approach to learning and to life that we developed this semester. I welcome you to come to my office throughout your time at City Tech–I am happy to continue to be a resource for you.
Now that grades are in, I look forward to reading the course evaluations that you wrote a few weeks ago.
Have a great summer, and good luck in your endeavors.
Best,
Prof. Rosen

Addie seems like a secretive, miserable and depressed woman. She married Anse but she had no love for him. She married him because he wouldn’t bother her and would be able to give her the life she wanted. Addie doesn’t show any affection but its obvious she favors Jewel. Before Addie dies, she plans to take revenge on Anse. Anse is lazy and she wanted him to promise her to bury her in Jackson because it would be a long and difficult trip. Addie wanted Anse to suffer. Addie didn’t have a good relationship with her father but he convinced her that its best to be dead and stay dead.
Moseley works in a drug store (pharmacy). Dewy Dell goes in and hints that she wants to buy abortion medicine, Moseley refuses to sell her any medication. Moseley tells her to get marry instead. He seems to be a religious man and doesn’t believe in abortion. When Moseley smells the corpse of Addie he seems to be a different person. He doesn’t see what the family has been through and wants them out of town as soon as possible. Moseley isn’t the nice caring religious man when he smells Addie.

After reading Addie narration, I come to conclusion that she is a selfish person. She wants to get her revenge on Anse. She started to hate her life since her childhood. I think it is because of her father, he had a bad influence on her. In addition, I think that Addie has some mental disorder, because the way she thinks about her life and everyone around her. She always wants to be alone. She married Anse because he was that man who promised her a life that she wanted, that nobody would bother her loneliness. I think that Addie had an affair with Whitfield, she loved him because he was her sin and her passion. Also, Jewel is his son, that’s why she loves Jewel the most. When she was talking to Cora, she made a point that Jewel will be the one who will make sure she will be buried near her family. And when we read how Jewel acts when his brothers carrying his dead mother body, he wants to do everything to make his mother wish come true. Addie knew that Jewel was special, that he loved her the most even he always showed indifference to her. Now we can see that she was right.

After reading the passage, Addie comes across to me as a very manipulative, cynical, and sadistic woman. Most likely stemming from her father’s negative influenced, Addie seems to express a pessimistic outlook on life. She doesn’t seem to enjoy living very much, and takes pleasure in seeing suffering from other individuals (such as whipping the children for misbehaving in school). And she’s a manipulator, who simply uses and controls people to fit her needs and desires, such as marrying Anse. She doesn’t express love or dedication to him, but seems to view him as a tool that would enable her to reach her personal goals. If anything, she doesn’t seem to even like Anse. Although, I find it ironic though to know that Addie was a much different person than the her children seemed to believe her to be. They’re going through this whole pilgrimage to bury her in Jefferson, wishing to fulfill their mother’s request to lay with her people, when most likely her only intention was just to have them suffer as she lies dead.

Did you think that everything there was to be said about the artists we looked at for the research projects had already been said? Well, think again! Here’s a link to an article discussing a recently published book, Van Gogh’s Ear: Paul Gauguin and the Pact of Silence, by Hans Kaufmann and Rita Wildegans, published in Germany, about Van Gogh, Gauguin, their relationship, and the infamous ear-cutting.

I hope you know that in addition to writing an annotated bibliography, you need to write and include a bibliography with your research essay. This second bibliography should be what’s called a Works Cited page. it is its own page, after the last page of your essay, and includes only the sources you actually refer to in your essay. On your Works Cited page, you still alphabetize the entries, but you do not need to include the annotations–the notes that you wrote about each source.
To make it easier to develop this list of sources in proper MLA format, you might try using this helpful online resource, Easy bib. If you go to this site, you’ll see that you can choose the type of resource you’re including and then enter all of the necessary information–the site will do the organizing for you! No more excuses for missing punctuation or misplaced information!
Let me know how you like this site.
