Summary on Pages 1-24

Jewel and Darl went to see Cash to see if they can help him finished up building the casket. The casket is made for Darl’s mother who is lying in the bed and going to die very soon. Darl’s mother chose Cash to make her casket because she chose him to build it and everyone grant her wish. Darl also thought of making profit in breeding more chicken so they can help him get more eggs to give to Miss Lawington and have enough to make cake to make extra cash. From the few pages Darl waits by his mother’s death bed and told her to “don’t worry” and “have some rest”, showing his last thing he can do for his mom.
